HUDSON THEATRE COMPANY RE-OPENING NIGHT

NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY, NYC

ASSIGNMENT

To celebrate the historic reopening of the Hudson Theatre, one of broadway’s newest (and oldest) playhouses, as well as the premiere performance, a revival of of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Sunday in the Park with George starring hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal, the ambassador theatre group, a London based global leader in live theatre had a lot to celebrate on their opening night.

Gradient was tasked to design and produce an after party for the opening night that celebrated and reflected the production, as well as the grand reopening, history, and heritage of the Hudson Theatre.

Idea

Drawing inspiration from the art of Georges Seurat, on which the musical Sunday in the park with George is inspired, the library was transformed with projection mapping that morphed from imagery of brushstrokes to historic archival playbills and production photos reflecting the heritage of the Hudson Theatre.
